Flashlog 7 and 8 Health Check Flashlog 8 Logo

We have recently discovered that Windows Updates may be consuming more than their fair share of disk space in the OS partition created on Flashlogs 7 and 8. It impacts those loggers with total audio storage of more than 2TB where historically the OS partition (c:) has been set to 100GB. With Windows Updates getting bigger and each one creating restore files and log files, that space may be eaten up to the point where it’s no longer adequate. Some suggestions for freeing up disk space are:

  1. Run Start – Accessories – System Tools – Disk Cleanup and click on the System Files button. After that’s finished searching the files, go to the selection list and check every box that has any significant disk usage. Click OK to start deleting files.
  2. Check the c:\windows\logs\CBS folder. This is where Windows Update writes its log files and it can run into many GB. If it needs cleaning, first go into Service Manager, scroll down to Windows Module Installer, select Properties and set its start-up to Disabled. Reboot, then delete all the log files in c:\windows\logs\CBS\. Once that’s done, set the service back to Manual Start and reboot again.
  3. Go to Start – Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator. At the command prompt, type powercfg –h off and press Enter. Close the command prompt window. This disables hibernation (which would never be needed on a logger) and frees up the space reserved for it.
